More Information About Kunzite:

Kunzite is the pink variety of Spodumene.  It is a monoclinic crystal displaying striations on the surface of semi-rare lavender to lilac pink, transparent crystals.  This mineral is often artificially irradiated to intensify its color (especially in specimens originating from Afghanistan). This mineral was named in 1903 in honor of American mineralogist George Frederick Kunz.  Because of its relatively recent discovery, Kunzite has no known historical significance.
