The Basics of Crystal Healing

Crystal healing is a form of vibrational medicine in which subtle energy given off by a crystal is used to treat the body, the mind, and the spirit. Crystals exhibit a type of orderly perfection which helps to bring healing light and loving encouragement to all beings. Their perfect forms are a metaphor for the balance and perfection that humans search for in their own lives. Since crystals emit beneficial energetic vibrations, introducing them into one's energy field can actually help to repair energetic imbalances within the ethereal body. For this reason, crystal healing can be performed on anything that possesses an energy field, be it a person, a plant, an animal, or the environment.

Crystals have the capability to absorb and transmit light (the utmost universal energy known to be in existence). Because of this property, crystals are able to draw in Universal energy, reflect it among their internal crystalline structures, and then transmit it to a receiving source (i.e. any being that will accept the crystal's generous healing energy). Therefore, one can see that crystals have the natural ability to conduct energy; they act as conduits for the universal healing energy of light.

Although crystals have been used to treat the body, mind, and spirit, crystal healing is not meant to replace conventional medicine. Instead, it should be used along with allopathic treatments to compliment and enhance them. The most important thing to keep in mind when beginning to use crystals for healing purposes is that a crystal's healing power is relatively inert until one intentionally directs its energy. It is not the crystal that possesses healing energy; it is one's intent to heal, by way of the crystal, which can, when properly used, manifest results. The information within this book is purely metaphysical in nature and is by no means medical. Crystal Healing should only be used with the understanding that it is not an independent therapy, but one that is just a part of a greater holistic healing approach.

The adoration of crystals by human beings connects all cultures and civilizations throughout the history of the Earth. The art of crystal healing has been present in many eras and cultures, some dating back for thousands of years (currently as far back in history as 25,000 BC). Healing with crystals was commonplace in Egyptian, Hebrew, and Mayan societies as well as in the Native American, Indian, Greek, Roman, Chinese, and Tibetan cultures. Although not yet fully accepted by Western medicine, its methods are still often used and prescribed in many other parts of the world. A crystal is a regularly-repeating atomic structure that is formed from building-block-like units of matter. It is also a tool one may use for healing the mind, body, and spirit. Crystals form inside of the earth through heat and pressure which cause its atoms and molecules to follow a blueprint (crystalline encoding). These molecules take on the most stable form possible by repeating until the crystal is fully formed.

Just as each type of crystal has a unique molecular blueprint, each crystal also carries with it a distinct energetic vibration. This is in part due to the way that the various atoms are arranged into molecules within the crystal's structure. This energetic vibration can also be influenced by the crystal's original geographic location, growing conditions, and the harvesting practices used to obtain the crystal. Therefore, specific crystals can be utilized in the treatment of very diverse physical, emotional, or spiritual ailments depending on the individual energetic vibration of the crystal. Crystal energy can also be intentionally manipulated to achieve various results. Some healers choose to use only crystals that are in their natural state (sometimes referred to as "raw" or "rough" crystals). These are crystals that are used in their natural state, be it terminated points, clusters, geodes, or chunks of massive stones. However, others believe that because differences exist in the energetic vibrations of the people to be treated, a considerate healer should have an assortment of crystal forms to better treat the specific needs of each individual. These various forms include but are not limited to tumbled or polished stones; cut and polished shapes such as generators, spheres, pyramids, animals, or deities; Vogel-cut crystals; sacred geometry shapes such as tetrahedrons, cubes, octahedrons, dodecahedrons, icosahedrons, and merkabahs; worry stones; wands (which can be cut into many various shapes including massage wands); palm stones; cabochons; free-forms; ritual objects; and much more.

The energy in raw or rough, natural stones is very direct. It gets the job done quickly and efficiently. However, these stones are often very powerful and may be too harsh for some people. In this situation, tumbled or polished stones may be more suitable to work with as they have a more subtle energy. Because of the way they have been shaped, the energy of these stones if often very gentle. The energetic vibration tends to radiate from the center of the stone in an even manner, making it easier for some people to accept. This is especially true for people new to working with crystals.

Other shapes and forms of crystals are similarly diverse in their healing abilities. Generators are used to harness and focus energy, spheres emit energy in all directions or are used for scrying (this form of divination will be discussed later in the book), and pyramids amplify energy and intention.

Carved totem animals or deities combine the attributes of the animal or deity with that of the healing properties of the stone used. Therefore, one should choose a carved figure made of a crystal that enhances and compliments, or that balances, the energy of the stone. For example, one could choose a Rose Quartz carving of the Goddess Quan Yin (also spelled Kwan Yin or Kuan Yin) as Rose Quartz, being a stone of love and compassion, compliments the energy of this Asian Goddess of mercy, empathy, and unconditional love. However, one could choose a Pyrite carving of this Goddess as Pyrite, being a stone of masculine energy and power, balances the energy of this Goddess.

Vogel-cut crystals are typically crystals of the quartz family (i.e. Clear Quartz, Amethyst, Smoky Quartz, Rose Quartz, Aura Quartz, or Citrine) which are cut either into wands with flat sides or into triangles. The wands are double-terminated and have flat sides in multiples of 12 (i.e. 12, 24, etc.). The triangles are composed of a flat back side and a front side with four triangular facets. Marcel Vogel, creator of the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), pioneered early crystal research and determined that a crystal's energy was strongest and most directly focused when it had been cut into these specific formations. Therefore, Vogel-cut crystals are typically used for very intense healing work such as psychic surgery. Crystals that have been cut into the five shapes used in sacred geometry have varied uses for healing. The tetrahedron is composed of four sides and represents the element fire. The cube is composed of four sides and represents the element earth. The octahedron is composed of eight sides and represents the element air. The dodecahedron is composed of ten sides and represents the element ether or spirit. Lastly, the icosahedron is composed of twenty sides and represents the element water. Another shape commonly used is the merkabah. This 24 sided shape is like a threedimensional Star of David or a double-pyramid. It is most often used to represent balance and the idea of "as above, so below."

The uses of crystals are incredibly varied. Crystals can be used for many types of divination (including ball & bowl scrying and pendulum dowsing). These powerful tools can also be successfully utilized in healing and cleansing of the mind, body, and spirit (of plants, animals, and humans alike). They are terrific aids in healing work done to clear and balance the chakras and subtle bodies. They are also beneficial for the development of the intuition and psychic abilities, astral travel, etc. Crystals also provide protection from all types of negative energies including psychic attack. Through people, crystals are able to promote personal and planetary ascension to raise the universal consciousness. They are some of the most inspiring tools of light known to man.

Crystals can be chosen in two different ways. Sometimes, one may have a specific reason for choosing a stone, in which case he or she can choose the stone based on its known properties. To use this method of selection, one should research the physical or emotional problem he or she is experiencing and then choose a corresponding stone. One may also, however, intuitively choose stones by selecting one or a few out of a bag at random (or by laying them out and selecting whichever he or she is most drawn to). Then, one should attempt to connect with the stone and feel its energy (to discover the primary uses of the stone. If one would like to check his or her intuitive insights against information included in publications of the stone's known properties, he or she can read about that stone's associated characteristics (which are typically useful for his or her situation) in books or on the internet.

Once one has selected one's crystals, he or she should cleanse them. This should be done before using them. There are a variety of ways one can clear a crystal. One way to cleanse a crystal is by soaking it in a solution of sea salt and distilled water (lavender oil is also often added to the solution due to its purification properties). Another method involves holding the stone under running water or in a stream to be purified. Yet another method to cleanse a stone is by smudging it. To smudge a stone, one must pass the stone through the smoke of an herb or incense (white sage, juniper, palo santo, sweetgrass, cedar, and sandalwood are all commonly used smudging herbs). Also, one may choose to bury a stone in the soil of the earth for a length of time in order to cleanse it. The clearing process should be carried out until one intuitively feels that the stone has been cleansed, or by feeling the stone's energy. One should then charge the crystal in sunlight or moonlight (preferably that of a full or a new moon) for at least one full day or night.

To awaken the elemental (the spirit or deva within the crystal) of a crystal, one should dedicate the crystal with love and light for the good of all beings in the universe. Then, one should graciously receive the magnificent gift of energy given off by the crystal. To dedicate a crystal, one must first clearly determine the purpose or intention of his or her program or dedication with love and light for the good of all beings. Then, one should place the crystal at the 6th chakra/3rd eye chakra/Brow chakra or hold it in one’s hands. Next, he or she should vividly imagine the positive and successful outcome of the intention/program/dedication (using sensory cues & vivid imagery). One should visualize the result of the program in as much detail as possible. This information should be transmitted into the crystalline structure via thought intention to be stored and recorded there for the good of all beings. The program should be repeated whenever one intuitively feels that it is again necessary (and as often as he or she likes).

Earth Healing Meditation

Meditation is a focusing or concentration of one's mental energy until one has reached a perfect stillness of the mind. With practice, meditation will allow one to realize the true self. Meditation should always be done for the self. It is a wonderful tool to allow one to fully explore his or her inner consciousness. It is an opportunity to recapitulate one's experiences and to learn and to grow from them (on a subconscious level). Meditation should be done with a full surrender to the stillness it creates.

Routine meditation (over time) has the ability to completely transform one's outlook on life. Meditation, combined with the proper intention, can aid one in a complete spiritual evolution. Meditation will allow a person to become the pure, perfect, being of the universe that he or she was meant to become.

There are several steps one can take to promote a successful meditation. First, one should create a sacred space in which he or she is comfortable. One's environment can greatly influence his or her success in meditation. “Sacred Space” may mean a different thing to each and every person. Typically, creating some sort of routine or ritual to perform prior to meditation can help to enhance it. The repetition of ritual will eventually send subtle cues to the brain that can help to prepare it for the meditative process. The brain and the subconscious will begin to learn from the experience that after one has gone through the motions of the ritual, there is an expected thing to follow. In this case, this thing is meditation-a clearing and stilling of the mind.

Correct posture can also significantly contribute to one's meditative practice. One should sit in the posture that is most comfortable to oneself. When one is not comfortable, the discomfort can become distracting to the mind and can disrupt one's focus. Some people prefer to sit on the floor with his or her legs crossed (Lotus position). However, this is not necessary. One can sit on the ground, in a chair, or however one feels most at ease in his or her body.

Next, one should begin focused breathing. One should focus on slow, even breathing and begin to relax. The circular breathing technique is very effective for focus and relaxation (this technique is discussed further in the following exercise). Once relaxation and focused breathing have been achieved, on can begin concentration. One should attempt to hold his or her attention on the present, transitory, moment. When the attention is held and stillness is achieved, one should retain it as long as possible until the end of the meditation session (at least 10 to 15 minutes). If one finds oneself becoming distracted while attempting to maintain the stillness, he or she should return his or her attention to the breath. One can always return to the focus on the breath to return the concentration to the meditative practice.

The true benefit of meditation is found in the stillness that it provides to one's body, mind, and spirit. This stillness alters one's conscious awareness and connects it with the divine. This altered state of consciousness benefits one's higher spiritual self. In this state, guidance is often received (consciously or unconsciously). This is a gift from the divine to one's higher self (one's own divine nature).

Most importantly, one should release all expectations one has of the meditative process and outcome. One should be completely open to the experiences of the meditation, but not expect more than what is. One should be open to any guidance or messages that may come from the stillness. However, one should not be discouraged if this does not happen. Instead, he or she should search for the benefit in the tranquility of the meditation.

Crystals can be used in meditation to help one to more clearly concentrate and to focus his or her mind's energy and to enhance the quality of the meditation. Crystals amplify one’s intentions and thoughts which raise his or her energy vibration, promoting conscious awareness. One's thoughts become more pure through meditation with crystals; they become filled with love and light for the good of all beings. This clear, pure thinking helps one to remain in the moment and focus on the stillness at hand. The following meditation was developed to send healing energy to the earth. When done with proper intent, it can combat the effects of pollution, global warming, and other negative environmental conditions in order help to return Mother Earth to a more wholesome state of being. This meditation is most effective when utilizing a Chrysocolla stone or one Azurite stone and one Malachite stone.

Earth Healing Meditation:

Sit or stand in a comfortable position with the soles of your feet flat on the ground (no shoes please). Center yourself; begin to attune yourself to the earth's energy (you may wish to use a picture or some other symbol). Begin circular breathing. Breathe in healing white universal light through your root chakra. See the light traveling up your chakras to the crown chakra. Exhale the light through your throat chakra back down to the basal chakra and breathe in the light again. Imagine the light like a wave. Imagine this wave of light moving in and out of your body like the tide. Now, expand the light so that it is a continuous loop of healing energy moving through your ethereal and physical bodies.

Imagine your chakras opening. Begin at the base chakra and picture a red swirling vortex of energy. Focus your attention on making this red energy very bright. Next, move up to the sacral chakra and imagine an orange energy vortex. Proceed through the chakras in this manner using yellow light at the solar plexus, green and pink at the heart, blue at the throat, indigo at the third eye, and violet at the crown.

Pick up your stone(s) (or place in front of you) and begin to focus your energy on earth-healing. Imagine the earth being covered with trees and flowers, with beautiful, flowing rivers, and being in a great state of health. Imagine it surrounded by white, healing light. Begin to further connect yourself to the earth by focusing on the two crystals. Start to pull in white healing light energy through your crown chakra. Next, imagine your legs and feet turning into roots and growing deep into the earth. Begin to transfer the white light from your crown, down through the chakras, and through your legs, out the roots, and into the earth.

Focus your attention on energizing the earth and on sending it love and healing light. Thank the earth if you wish. Spend some time sending these healing energies while continuing your circular breathing.

When you feel you are ready, imagine the roots loosening from the earth and resuming being your legs. Slowly come back to conscious awareness.

Chakras & Auras: A Crystal Healing Approach

Chakras are vortices of energy found in the aura, or energy field, of the human body. These energy centers act as satellites to the universe, taking in energy, using it to influence the mind, the body, and the spirit, and then returning it back to the universe. Each chakra rules a specific section of the physical body, specific emotions, and certain aspects of one’s spiritual self. There are seven major chakras found along the spine, but there are many other minor chakras located all throughout the physical body.

In crystal healing, the seven chakra system is most commonly used. However, there are many minor chakras that can be used under particular circumstances. In fact, all of these chakras are influenced by the crystal's healing energy during a healing session, but the energy is typically more precisely directed to the body's seven main energy centers. By placing crystals on the chakras, one can use the healing vibrations given off by the crystal to correct any imbalances within the chakra.

Typically, crystals are associated with specific chakras based on their color, but this is not always true. Some crystals have other inherent properties that allow them to be used on chakras other than those that are associated with their color. These exceptions can be discovered after research or intuitive insights about additional properties that the crystal may have. These associations may even vary from person to person so it is important that one takes time to connect with a particular crystal before placing it on the body.

Please Note: The seven most commonly known chakras have been numbered 1-7. Other minor chakras have been bulleted. This listing appears in order from the base of the spine toward the crown of the head.

- Gaia Gateway Chakra (Black Crystals)
- Earth Star Chakra (Brown Crystals)
1. Root/Base/Perineum/Muladhara Chakra (Black, Brown, or Red Crystals)
- Coccygeal Chakra (Burnt Orange or Rust Crystals)
2. Sacral/Pubic/Spleenic/Pelvic/Swadhisthana Chakra (Orange Crystals)
- Navel/Sea of Chi’i/Door of Life Chakra (Yellow-Orange or Gold Crystals)
3. Solar Plexus/Diaphragmatic/Power/Manipura Chakra (Yellow or Gold Crystals)
- Lower Heart/Sacred Heart Chakra (Green Crystals)
4. Middle Heart/Shoulder Blades/Anahata Chakra (Pink Crystals)
- Higher Heart/Ascending Heart/Thymus Chakra (Teal Crystals)
- Base of Throat/Base of Neck Chakra (Turquoise Crystals)
- Zeal Point Chakra/Mouth of God/Talu/Lalana Chakra (Blue Crystals)
6. Third Eye/3rd Eye/Brow/Ajna Chakra (Indigo or Violet Crystals)
- Manas Chakra (Indigo or Violet Crystals)
- Indu Chakra (Indigo or Violet Crystals)
- Upper Forehead Chakra (Dark Indigo or Deep Violet Crystals)
7. Crown/Sahasrara Chakra (Violet, Golden, or Clear White Crystals)
- Golden Crown Chakra (Gateway Chakra) (Gold Crystals)
- Causal Chakra (Gateway Chakra) (Teal & Pink or White Crystals)
- Soul Star Chakra (Gateway Chakra) (Gold & Clear White Crystals)
- Stellar Gateway Chakra (Gateway Chakra) (Gold & Silver Crystals)

Crystal Layout to Activate the Chakras:

In this layout the healer should place a stone of the corresponding color on each of the seven main chakras. This exercise will open the energetic pathways within the subject and will also activate the major and minor chakras within the subject’s body. This technique is best used with tired or fatigued subjects, or those who are under a great deal of stress. To begin, one should choose a colored stone that is appropriate for each of the seven main chakras, using the color correspondences listed above.

Beginning at the root chakra, one should place a red stone, such as Garnet or Red Jasper, at the base of the subject’s spine. Next, the healer should place an orange stone, such as Carnelian, on the subject’s sacral chakra, about two inches below the subject’s navel (about half way between the subject’s pubic bone and belly-button). Then, one should place a yellow stone, such as Yellow Aventurine or Yellow Calcite, on the subject’s solar plexus chakra, about two inches above the subject’s navel, between the subject’s belly-button and his or her breast bone.

The healer should then move to the subject’s heart chakra and choose a green stone, such as Green Fluorite or Green Aventurine, and place it in the center of the subject’s chest.

Next, one should place a blue stone, such as Blue Opal or Blue Quartz, on the subject’s throat chakra at the center of the throat.

Then, one should place an indigo (dark blue) stone, such as Lapis Lazuli or Sodalite, at the subject’s brow chakra, located between and slightly above the subject’s eyes.

Finally, the healer should place a violet stone, such as Sugilite or Amethyst, at the subject’s crown chakra, located on the top of the subject’s head.

If terminated crystal points are used, the terminations should face toward the subject’s crown.

If one do not have enough colored stones to use, or if the healer would prefer to use clear quartz only, the quartz crystals may be used without other stones. The quartz should be programmed to the color of each chakra before being placed on the subject’s body.

After the stones have been placed on the body, the healer should infuse each chakra with energy by placing his or her hands just above each stone. To infuse a chakra with energy, the healer should bring white light with energy from the universe. To bring white light into his or her body, the healer should be grounded and centered. Then, the healer should visualize his or her crown chakra opening and, as he or she inhales, visualize a stream of universal light beaming into the crown of his or her head. The healer should then exhale and push the light down through the palms of the hands. He or she can now transfer this energy into the subject.

The healer should begin this energy-infusion at the brow chakra, then he or she should move to the crown chakra. After this, the healer should move to the root chakra and continue up the spine to the sacral, solar plexus, heart, and throat chakras. The healer should then again infuse the brow and crown chakras with energy. The healer should spend at least three to five minutes at each chakra or until he or she intuitively feels that there is sufficient energy at each chakra.

Crystal Layout to Balance the Chakras:

This technique is utilized by the healer to balance the energy of each chakra and is particularly best utilized with subject’s that suffer from anxiety, anger, ADD, or a great deal of stress.

To begin this technique, repeat the laying on of colored stones from the previous exercise, but stop before beginning the energy-infusion technique. Then, return to the root chakra and place a stone of the complimentary color next to the stone that has been placed at each chakra. Work up the chakras, beginning at the root and moving up toward the crown, using the following colors:

  • Root Chakra: Green stone
  • Sacral Chakra: Blue stone
  • Solar Plexus Chakra: Violet stone
  • Heart Chakra: Pink stone and Red Stone
  • Throat Chakra: Orange stone
  • Third Eye Chakra: Red stone
  • Crown Chakra: Yellow stone

If one does not have enough colored stones to use, or if the healer would prefer to use clear quartz only, the quartz crystals may be used without other stones. The quartz should be programmed to the color of each chakra before being placed on the subject’s body.

The stones I this technique should not be infused with energy. Instead, they should be left to transmit healing, balancing energy into the subject’s aura and subtle bodies. The crystals should be left on the body for approximately twenty minutes or until the healer intuitively feels that the subject has absorbed the healing energy.

The most important thing for one to remember as he or she is placing stones on the subject’s body, is that the stones should all be aligned with the subject’s spine. This assures that the energetic channels are properly opened.

If one finds it difficult to remember the correspondence between color and the chakras, he or she should try to memorize the following acronym: ROY G. BIV (i.e. like a man’s name).

  • R (Red)
  • O (Orange)
  • Y (Yellow)
  • G (Green)
  • B (Blue)
  • I (Indigo)
  • V (Violet)

The chakras also correspond to particular auric realms (layers of the energy body).

Please Note: This listing appears in order from the innermost layer toward the outermost layer of the aura:

  • Physical Body
  • Etheric Body
  • Emotional Body
  • Mental/Vital Body
  • Astral Body
  • Etheric Template
  • Celestial Body
  • Causal/Ketheric/Intuitive Body

An Exercise for Aura Health:

One should strengthen and protect the aura in various everyday life situations. One should especially strengthen the aura if he or she knows that he or she will encounter an individual that will drain his or her energy, as this is extremely detrimental to the auric body. This should also be done if one knows that he or she will have to spend time in a negative energy environment or deal with a situation surrounded by negative energies and emotions.

To protect the aura, one should close off their energy body to others by engaging in the protective posture (feet crossed at the ankles and with thumbs and fingers touching).

To strengthen and energize the aura, one can undertake the nostril breathing technique. In this technique, the breath is used to strengthen the auric field and to balance the mind and the physical body. This technique is performed by alternating one's breaths, breathing in through one nostril and then out of the other.

To begin the technique, hold the nostrils between your thumb and index finger. Place your right thumb and finger over your nostril (without squeezing) and exhale. Then connect your tongue to your palette just behind your front teeth. Next, press your thumb against right nostril to close it and inhale through your left nostril for approximately three seconds. While keeping your right nostril closed with your thumb, press your index finger onto your left nostril. Your nose should now be closed between your thumb and finger. Keep your nostrils pinched shut for approximately 15 seconds. If 15 seconds is too long for you, then reduce the time limit to amount that you feel comfortable with. Now, remove your thumb so as to open your right nostril, but continue holding your left nostril closed with your index finger. Slowly release your breath through your right nostril for approximately three seconds. Remove your right hand from your nose and place your left hand on your nostrils with your thumb pressing on your left nostril. Inhale through your right nostril for approximately three seconds and press your left index finger onto your right nostril, so as to close it. Hold this breath for approximately 15 seconds. Then, remove your thumb to open your left nostril, but continue to press your right nostril closed with your index finger. Slowly release your breath through your left nostril for approximately three seconds.

Repeat this exercise, while alternating nostrils for approximately three to five repetitions.

To purify the aura, one can perform the cleansing vortex exercise. In this exercise, one visualizes a whirlwind of purifying, healing, white light which surrounds the entire auric body (beginning at the Causal/Ketheric Body). One should then visualize this whirlwind removing all negative energy and transmuting it into positive energy. Then, one should visualize that the vortex departs into the earth and this positive energy is released into the earth for the good of all beings.

Once the aura has been strengthened, protected, and cleared, one is ready to absorb the healing energy of the crystals. This process should be followed by a mindfulness meditation exercise and focused breathing.

Crystal Divination: Three Techniques for Insight and Healing

Humans have been practicing the art of divination for thousands of years. The art of divination allows one to communicate with and to receive guidance from the divine. Be it from spirit guides, angels, totems, ancestors, or some other higher power, these insights actually come from within the self. Divinatory tools are just means by which one is able to access this inner knowledge.

From the Ancient Egyptians, to the Elizabethans, and even modern psychics, crystals have played an enormous role in many divinatory techniques. There are several divination methods in which one can utilize the power of crystals for guidance. Crystallomancy, Lithomancy, and Dowsing are just a few of these powerful divinatory methods. There are a number of steps to performing a reading using crystals as divinatory tools. These steps may be utilized for any type of crystal divination.

First, one must formulate a general question about a particular issue in which he/she needs guidance. The question should be open-ended (i.e. it should not have a yes or no answer). Then, the diviner must focus on the question at hand. It may help to write the question on a sheet of paper and/ or to ask it aloud at least three times.

Next, the diviner must prepare himself or herself for the reading. He or she must select the crystal(s) to be used while focusing on the question at hand. He or she should then clear his or her mind and become attuned to the energy of the crystals.

The, one needs to clear and cleanse all of the crystals that will be used. The clearing process should be carried out until one intuitively feels that the stone has been cleansed, or by feeling the stone’s energy. Then, after the reading, the diviner should always cleanse and clear the crystals to remove any energy that may have been transferred during the session. Now, one is ready to begin crystal divination.

Crystallomancy is a form of scrying divination that utilizes crystals (most commonly those shaped into spheres [i.e. crystal balls]). Gazing into a crystal ball takes patience and practice. One most often needs to form a relationship with his or her crystal ball before any meaningful images appear. One should always treat the crystal ball with respect as it is a powerful divinatory tool. Also, one’s crystal ball is a very personal object, so one should not allow others to handle it (or even to view it when it is not necessary). One should safely store the ball in a silk cloth when it is not in use. This will help to keep its energetic vibrations clear and radiant.

It is best not to use the crystal ball if your energy is not clear. If one is not serious about the reading, or if one is in a negative state of mind, he or she should not use his or her crystal ball. One should always intend the reading to be for the highest good of all beings, with the love and light of the universe.

To begin scrying, place your light source (preferably a candle) off to the side (so that the light does not interfere with the image you see when you are scrying) and gaze into your ball. The crystal may begin to go out of focus or become blurry to your eyes as you stare into it, then, after a time, images may begin to appear within the sphere.

Most commonly, one will observe symbolic images, although as one becomes more advanced, the images may become more literal. Symbolic visions should always be interpreted according to one's current life situation.

It is best for one to keep a scrying journal so that he or she is able to track his or her skills as a crystallomancer. It also aids in tracking a more complete interpretation of the images you obtain while gazing. A journal can also be helpful if one is performing readings for others.

If one prefers the art of casting crystals, or lithomancy, then the diviner should follow the same steps for preparation as in crystallomancy. Then, he or she should create a casting area. The casting area is a sacred space that is created by the diviner’s intention. Many diviners utilize a cloth to mark the casting area. The cloth should ideally be made of silk and should only be used in this sacred space for the purpose of divination, as it is a ritual object.

He or she should then clear the divining space of negativity. This can be done by creating a ring of sea salt or Himalayan salt around the divining area. Yet another method to cleanse the space is by smudging it. The clearing process should be carried out until one intuitively feels that the space has been cleansed, or by feeling the energy of the space.

After the space has been cleared and the intention has been set to create a sacred space, the diviner may begin to cast the stones. He or she should hold them between the palms of the hands approximately 2-3” above the casting area and then drop them while pondering the question.

After this, the diviner should interpret the pattern created by the position of the crystals. The diviner should disregard any crystals that fall hand. If a crystal is cast into the center of the divining space, its meaning should be integrated with all others as it provides a central theme for the answer to the question asked. Emphasis should be placed on any area in which multiple crystals are cast. If no stones are cast onto the area, the diviner may repeat the cast or may need to reformulate the question. Next, the diviner should interpret the message. To do this, the diviner should look over the area as a whole and use his or her intuition to interpret the meaning of the way in which the stones were cast. Then, he or she should use the associated properties for each crystal combined with the meaning given for each specific section of the casting area in order to draw a conclusion about the question at hand.

It is best for one to keep a journal so that he or she is able to track his or her skills as a lithomancer. It also aids in tracking a more complete interpretation of the insights you obtain while divining. A journal such as this can also be helpful if one is performing readings for others.

Yet another divinatory method is dowsing, or divining with a pendulum. A pendulum is a tool that one holds between his or her thumb and index finger which consists of any sacred object such as a crystal, a key, or a ring, which is attached to a piece of cord or string. A diviner uses a pendulum to receive precise yes or no answers to his or her proposed questions (although he or she may sometimes receive neutral answers-in which case the question should be reformulated or asked again at another time).

One should used the same preparation techniques as in crystallomancy or lithomancy, but instead of formulating a general question, he or she should articulate a question with a precise “yes” or “no” answer.

Once one has properly prepared, he or she should grip the end of the string, opposite the sacred object, between his or her thumb and index finger of the dominant hand. Then, one should ask (aloud or silently) to be shown his or her “yes” answer and note the manner in which the pendulum swings (i.e. forward and backward, side to side, clockwise, counterclockwise, wildly, slowly, etc.). One should then repeat this asking to be shown his or her “no” answer. One should not move the pendulum intentionally, but let it move according the subtle energy currents of the body.

One should practice divining with the pendulum by asking general questions to which one is not emotionally attached. When one is neutral about the outcome of the divination, he or she will obtain clearer insights as they will not be influenced by one’s desires. Once one ha had enough practice and is consistently receiving accurate readings, he or she may then begin to ask more personal questions.

Again, it is suggested that one keep a dowsing journal so as to keep a record of his or her accuracy with this divinatory tool.

Divination methods that utilize crystals can be useful in healing because they can aid the healer in detecting the energy field of the subject. Since crystal divination connects one with his or her higher self, it can help to stimulate the intuition of the healer and enable him or her to be better able to detect subtle energetic imbalances in the subject. By scrying, the healer may receive messages about the subject’s energy in the form of images or symbols (i.e. a specific chakra, organ, or emotional state may be indicated through these symbols). If casting stones, the healer may choose to cast onto a chart representing the subject’s body (i.e. the corresponding stones may indicate over-active or under-active energy in the areas on which they land). By dowsing with a pendulum, the healer can hold the pendulum over the subject’s body to detect his or her energy (i.e. the pendulum may remain still for stagnant energy or swing wildly to show that the energy is concentrated in a particular spot).

Crystal Layouts and Grids for Energetic Balance and Karmic Upliftment

Karma is the Universal/Cosmic Law of Divine Justice. It holds one accountable for one’s actions, whether they are good or bad. Basically, one will receive what one sends out to the Universe. Our past lives can affect our current karma. Past lives are previous incarnations in which one’s soul lived in another time and/or place in another physical body. It may be necessary to heal past lives because it can help one to deal with negativity in this life that has been carried over from previous lives (and from the karma, which attached to the psychic body, resulting from the soul’s choices in these lives). By healing negativity in one’s past lives, one can move forward along the path of healing in one’s current life.

Using crystals during meditation to heal past lives can be done by holding them in the hands or against the 6th chakra (Third Eye/3rd Eye/ Brow Chakra). Crystals have the ability (when combined with a clear intent) to clear etheric blockages by opening and balancing one’s energy system. A crystal grid can also be utilized during meditation to release negativity from one’s past lives.

I have created several wonderful crystal healing layouts/gridding systems for energetic balance and past life healing.

The first crystal healing layout that I have developed is in the form of the Buddhist Wheel of the Dharma. This grid should be made entirely of compatible for this exercise, it is not necessary that they be used (other stones may be substituted if you intuitively feel that they would be more helpful in the given situation). I have found that this crystal layout is best used for Karmic Release during a past life ascension healing session.

The grid should be laid out upon and around the person's body (with the center of the Wheel placed at the heart), or on a picture of the person (or group of people) to be healed. The grid can be as large or small as you like and there is no particular number of crystals that needs to be used.

The second grid that I have developed is based upon the Tibetan symbols for each of the chakras. I developed this grid for general chakra chakra symbols are created out of crystals and placed on the appropriate chakra of the body. See the picture below for the appropriate symbol and its corresponding chakra:

The goal of clearing karma and releasing past life trauma is ascension. Ascension is the evolution of one’s conscious awareness. By raising one’s energy vibration (through positive actions and thought/intentions) one is able to advance his/her state of awareness and move further down the path of spiritual awakening.

Kundalini and Energetic Meridians: A Crystal Healing Approach

The continued, repeated practice of meditation will affect one not only spiritually, but on an energetic level as well. Meditation will eventually begin to have a noticeable, positive effect on one’s chakras, energetic meridians and kundalini, and one’s aura as a whole.

Meridians are energetic channels found in one’s etheric body. This system of channels is thought to transport one’s life force energy (chi/qi or prana) throughout the body. Since the meridians are all connected, energetic blockages are often easily detectable upon assessment of the physical body. If one is experiencing a physical illness or ailment in a particular area of the body, it is likely that he or she also has an associated energy blockage, or shortage of energy, in the corresponding energetic meridians.

Meditation may also have an effect on one’s kundalini. The kundalini is an Eastern notion often represented by a serpent-like form of energy, or shakti (another representation of one’s life force energy). It is thought that the kundalini is like a snake that remains coiled up at the base of one’s spine (in the root or base chakra) until its energy is released through practices such as meditation or tantric yoga. The serpent-like energy then travels up the spine, by way of the sushumna (a central energetic channel parallel to the spine), through each of the chakras toward the crown chakra where it manifests as divine wisdom and a state of perfect conscious awareness, or enlightenment. As the kundalini journeys toward the crown, the chakras (thought of as lotuses) are said to open, or to bloom, as the kundalini energy passes through them. This opening of these energetic centers manifests the progression of the development of one’s perfect conscious awareness.

However, the rising of the kundalini shakti should only occur in the most spiritually attuned individuals. If this energy is prematurely awakened, before one’s energetic channels and chakras are completely pure and realized, the rising of the kundalini shakti can have negative effects on an individual. If one has energetic blockages in his or her etheric body, then the kundalini energy becomes more or less stuck in the area of the blockage. This begins to create an energetic strain as the pressure of the kundalini shakti builds in this area, resulting in “kundalini psychosis.” Basically, the premature rising of the kundalini shakti causes negative, physical, emotional, and spiritual side effects in the unrealized person.

In a situation such as this, the excess energy of the Kundalini shakti can be returned to its normal state by using a large crystal which has been programmed for relieving this type of energetic shock. To create this program, one should hold the crystal up to the third eye chakra (brow chakra/6th chakra) or in the hands and then visualize the image of a sleeping serpent (representing resting Kundalini energy) and intend that this image be programmed into the crystal. One should also create and recite an affirmation regarding the dormant kundalini shakti and program this into the crystal as well. Then, the crystal should be used at the sacral chakra (2nd chakra) while repeating the affirmation and visualizing that the serpent-like energy return to the base chakra and coil up to rest. This healing exercise should be performed for approximately fifteen minutes per day for several days or until the adverse energetic effects have dissipated.

Dream Healing: A Crystal Healing Approach

A powerful method of utilizing crystals for guidance is through dream healing. When one is dreaming, he or she is able to receive intuitive guidance from the higher self. He or she may also experience connections with higher beings or guides. When one becomes able to remember one's dreams and interpret them, astounding messages can be discovered and allow for the process of healing the inner self to begin.

To begin the dream healing process, obtain a piece of Red Jasper and a piece of Amethyst, each to be used only for dream work. These crystals should be cleansed and purified, charged, and programmed before use. Once the crystals have been cleansed and programmed, one should place the Red Jasper beneath his or her pillow. Red Jasper is known to stimulate the dream consciousness in order to bring forth dreams of deep meaning. It also keeps the dreamer's astral body connected to the earth during intense astral travel. Amethyst is often used to stimulate intuitive guidance and will help in the interpretation of one's dreams. It will be used later in the process.

The dreamer should place a notebook and a pen or pencil next to the bed (within easy grasp) before lying down to go to sleep. He or she should then focus his or her attention on intending to dream and to remember the dream. The dreamer should also focus his or her attention on intending to properly interpret dream symbols and messages for the highest good of his or her being.

Upon awakening, one should lie still and attempt to remember as many of the details as possible from his or her dream. When comfortable with moving, he or she should hold the Amethyst crystal in his or her receiving hand and write down the dream experience as precisely as can be. One may even wish to draw sketches as some things from dreams can be difficult to convey with words alone. Then, at a later time, he or she should review the journal entry and attempt to decipher any symbols, people, places, or experiences that occurred while in the dream consciousness.

It is important to keep very good records in the dream journal as these are some of the greatest clues one has to determining what is best for the higher self. We can often gain insights to healing through these clues so one should be meticulous in his or her record keeping. Also, although one will sometimes immediately understand how a dream symbol should be interpreted, many dream symbols are just pieces of a greater puzzle. One may need to link together several entries to fully understand the messages behind one's dream(s).

Other crystals that are useful in dream healing include Herkimer Diamonds, Moonstones, Celestite, and Moldavite. These stones can be used under the pillow, or in grid formations within the dreamer's bed or bedroom.

Herkimer Diamonds help one to fully tap into his or her astral body and to have control over it while in one's dream consciousness. They facilitate the journey and are invaluable for this type of work.

Moonstones are beneficial for those attempting lucid dreaming, or a state in which our conscious awareness is present during astral travel. This state of dreaming can be beneficial because it allows one to direct a dream in order to receive guidance according to his or her desired agenda.

Celestite facilitates communication between one's consciousness and higher spiritual beings. Using this stone for dream healing can help one in receiving insights and guidance from those in the astral plane.

Finally, Moldavite can assist one in dream journeying. This stone will take one where few others can. With this crystal, the ride may be fast and bumpy (always with good reason), so hold on tight! When using this stone for dream work, it is imperative to also utilize a grounding stone such as Hematite or Red Jasper so that it is not difficult for the dream consciousness to return to the body and resume being one's waking conscious awareness.

If using these stones in grid formations, one should be creative. Stones can be placed in the corners of the room, in each of the four directions, one each to represent the twelve houses of the zodiac, in a circle around one's bed, or in any other formation one so chooses. Following is a crystal array to facilitate the dream state and to help one to remember one's dreams, as well as to facilitate intuitive interpretation of the dream symbols. The stones utilized in this grid include:

  • RED JASPER (Under Pillow, Beneath Third Eye Chakra)
  • MOLDAVITE (Under Sheet, Beneath Heart Chakra)
  • CELESTITE (One at Each Corner of Bed)
  • HERKIMER DIAMOND (One at Crown Chakra (Under Pillow) & One at Solar Plexus Chakra (Under Sheet))

Crystal Fertility Exercise

First, choose a stone that you intuitively feel is right for increasing female fertility. If you are unsure, the following stones are universally known for their connection with fertility and reproduction: Druzy Chrysocolla, Jade (especially in the form of a four-footed dragon - either Jadeite or Nephrite can be used), Indian Moonstone, Apricot Moonstone, Rainbow Moonstone (also known as White Labradorite), Rose Quartz, Lavender Rose Quartz, Rhodochrosite, Boji Stone (use the smooth, female stones), Rhodonite, and Rutilated Quartz (especially with Red or Golden Rutiles, but Silver can also be used). For this purpose, the energy of the stones would be much enhanced if in the form of an egg, but this is not necessary.

Next, choose a stone that will enhance male fertility. The following stones are connected with masculine energy: Pyrite, Shiva Lingam Stones, Limonite, Boji Stone (use the rough, male stones), Blue Pietersite, Blue Tiger's Eye (also known as Hawk's Eye), or Gold. It is best if you choose your fertility stone and your partner chooses theirs, but if this is not possible, you may choose both.

Next, create a "nest" for your fertility stones. This can be any small container of your choosing that you feel is suitable. Make this nest your own. You may choose to use a small box filled with soft fabrics, a basket, or even a real nest that you find in nature (as long as it is no longer being used by the mother bird who built it). Fill your nest with items that emit a safe, gentle, and loving energy. These may be pictures, wishes that you have written on scraps of paper, other stones, sacred herbs, or items that are special to you like pieces of jewelry, feathers, etc. Then, place the nest in a place of prominence where it will be able to inspire you daily. Again, it is best if this activity is done by both partners, but if this is not possible, you should create the nest with the intention of choosing materials and objects to represent both of you.

Once you have created your nest, you should dedicate your fertility stones. Create an intention for your stones by first dedicating them with love and light for the highest good of all beings. Visualize the stones being filled with healing, universal white light until they are glowing brightly. If you have a difficult time envisioning the light, you may take your fertility stones outside into the sunlight or light a candle and let its flame illuminate your stones (but do not place your stones into the flame). Then, program your stones for fertility by making a clear, concise statement about your intentions. This may be as simple as, "These stones increases my fertility and will help me to become pregnant" or as specific to your fertility issues as possible. Then, place the stones into the nest (it would be best if you placed your stone into the nest and your partner theirs, but if this is not possible, you may place both).

You (and your partner if possible) should take some time each day to sit with the nest. You may choose to meditate, you may want to add things to the nest or to occasionally change things as time goes by. You may even want to perform reiki or some other energy healing technique on the nest. However, you choose to use the nest, remember what it represents and remember why you chose your specific fertility stones and nesting items. This is a healing space for you (and your partner). Maintain an open heart and an open mind and the possibilities are limitless.
